Open Question: advanced electricity question?

ok so say i have electricity (say 1 volt, 1 ampere) running through some sort of mechanism thing (in my case its a transformer, for simplicity's sake lets say there's no step-up, so theoretically it should come out 1 volt 1 ampere)... but the mechanism isn't very efficient, lets say its only 50% efficient. Does this mean that volts would get cut in half, amperes, or both? So for example how many volts and amperes would this inefficient transformer get at the end? on second thought this question isn't advanced at all...
