Open Question: Speed of light problem. Can you offer an intuitive explanation?

???????????????????????????????????????????? Two cars are heading directly towards each other on a straight road. Each car is going 50 mph. What is the closing speed? Answer: 100mph. Simple. Now, the same thing, but with lasers: Two lasers pointers are a mile apart and aimed directly at each other. They are switched on at the same instant. When the two beams meet in the middle, what was the closing speed? Is there any way to explain this intuitively? .
