Open Question: Was what I did uncalled for or was I right?

I was talking to this girl about 2 months ago and we ended up having a falling out and just quit plain and simple. Anyway one of her close guy friends walk up to me at a pre July 4th celebration and tells me not to talk to her any more. And I haven't in that whole time not 1 time have I tried to contact her. I was like what the fuck and he said just dont so I have a temper you can say and ended up hitting him and when I start I cant control it and I refuse to quit. Anyway they guy got pretty badly messed up I guess he had a concussion and supposedly his eye socket was messed up bad. Now its like 50 50 on people being on my side saying I did the right thing and the other half saying no im bi-polar and crazy. Basically all the guys are on my side and the girl on his. Opinions?
